Thursday afternoon…it’s all downhill from here!

This Afternoon – Scat’d Rain Showers, BREEZY – High 43˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 25˚

**A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Butler and Edmonson County from 6pm this evening through 6pm Friday**

3pm 43˚ ~ 6pm 38˚ ~ 9pm 35˚ ~ 12am 34˚ ~ 3am 30˚ ~ 6am 27˚

Very few reports of snowfall this morning.  This is a direct result of the lower levels of our atmosphere remaining dry.  I did receive word from many folks who witnessed flying flurries, but that’s it.  The upcoming weather pattern will keep a broad trough located across the eastern US, which will continue to filter disturbances southeast across our proximity.  The first of these will be an approaching cold front, which will amp up southwesterly winds to 15-25mph this afternoon.

Skies should remain partly to mostly cloudy through this evening, with a few light showers not out of the question.  Much of the same can be expected overnight, with the potential for a light wintry mix/snow combo replacing plain rain, as the cold front works to our east.  The surface model below (valid 3pm) shows the location of the front:

Fri – Scat’d Snow Showers, Breezy – High 28˚ / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 17˚

**Winter Weather Advisory for Butler and Edmonson County until 6pm**

Isolated to scattered snow showers are forecast to continue behind the cold front, accompanying bitter temperatures that won’t get out of the upper 20s.  The GFS precip model below is valid 12am Friday – 12am Saturday in 6-hour increments.  It should give you a better idea of what we’ll be working with.  Notice the low pressure system churning over the Great Lakes, which we’ll hold responsible for sending scattered snow showers across the viewing area:

Coats, gloves & scarfs are all recommended.  Temperatures climbing into the upper 20s will have real-feel windchill values in the teens, as westerly winds of 10-20mph make themselves known.   Significant impacts are not expected, however, the scattered nature of this weather maker could create light accumulations (dusting – 1″), along with slick roadways.  Friday morning and evening commuters should take note.  Again, the snow will be sporadic, resulting in a variety of amounts for locations across the region.  This should be quite similar to what we experienced Wednesday.

Sat – partly Sunny – High 38˚ / Sat Night – Iso’d Snow Showers – Low 25˚

A lull in disturbances should produce a mix of sun and clouds to start out our Saturday, with winds shifting back out of the south, which will send temps back into the upper 30s.  A series of shortwaves will cut a path southeast across the Bluegrass State on Saturday night, reintroducing those annoying, sporadic snow showers to the outlook.  As far as accumulations are concerned, I don’t think we’ll receive any.

That’s going to wrap up the afternoon post.  As always, stay in touch with me @Wx_Or_Not for more frequent information.  Have a great afternoon, stay safe, and thanks for reading.
