Wednesday Afternoon Update

Wednesday afternoon…it’s all downhill from here.

This Afternoon – Partly Cloudy – High 36˚ / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy, Flurries – Low 25˚

3pm 36˚ ~ 6pm 30˚ ~ 9pm 28˚ ~ 12am 26˚ ~ 3am 25˚ ~ 6am 25˚

As forecast, southerly winds have coincided with a mix of sun and clouds to take temperatures into the mid 30s.  Throughout the remainder of the afternoon, you can expect cloud cover to increase, as our next disturbance approaches from the west.  This will continue to filter in clouds overnight.  We’ll also have the slight chance at seeing a few flurries/light snow showers move through.  No accumulation is expected.

Thu – Scat’d Rain/Sleet – High 46˚ / Thu Night – Iso’d Showers – Low 34˚

Isolated rain showers will enter the picture as early as tomorrow morning, as a surface front remains located to our northwest.  Southerly winds will continue to advect in a warmer airmass, which in turn will result in our warming trend continuing for another day.

Looking at the latest soundings, it looks like we could experience a scattered mix of rain & sleet as we get into the afternoon.  Temperature profiles suggest this is a possibility.  Surface values should be well above freezing, therefore, no travel impacts are expected if it does in fact happen.  Regardless, I think we’ll see scattered precipitation impact the area, no matter if it’s frozen or not.  It should remain light.  Have a look at the GFS precip model below, valid for 12pm Thursday.  This particular run likes the idea of frozen precip tracking in from the southwest:

Fri – Iso’d Showers – High 50˚ / Fri Night – Rain Likely – Low 44˚

Lingering surface boundary will continue to fluctuate to our northwest along the Ohio River, as ample moisture starts to saturate our atmosphere, thanks to an upper level trough tracking in from the west.  Isolated showers can be expected throughout the day, with widespread rain coverage taking over Friday night into Saturday.  Rainfall values through this time could range from .50 – 1″.  A few localized areas may see even more.  This is supported by the GFS model below, valid for rainfall amounts through 6pm Saturday:
