Wednesday Afternoon Update

This Afternoon – Sunny – High 44 / Tonight – Clear – Low 25

4pm 39 ~ 7pm 32 ~ 10pm 28 ~ 1am 27 ~ 4am 26

Sunny, cool and calm has been the weather story today, and much of the same can be expected through the remainder of our Wednesday. High pressure remains in complete control, and should keep our atmosphere in a peaceful state. Here is a look at the current surface model:

Thu – Sunny – High 55 / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 34

7am 26 ~ 10am 42 ~ 1pm 53 ~ 4pm 50 ~ 7pm 46

High pressure will continue to dominate south central Kentucky, leaving sunny and quiet conditions to occupy the weather headlines. Temperatures will rebound slightly Thursday afternoon, topping out into the mid 50s. {YAWN}

Fri – Increasing Clouds – High 56 / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 44

Cloud cover will slowly increase, as they filter across the region from our southwest.  Increasing clouds look to be the only thing worth mentioning, outside of the fact that our warming trend will continue.

Weekend Storm Chances???

The number of clouds in the sky will continue to increase throughout our Saturday, with isolated – scattered precip a possibility as well. Cyclogenesis will also occur across the Great Plains on Saturday. As this evolving area of low pressure becomes better organized, it will burn a path northeast toward the Great Lakes. In response to this, an associated, stout cold front looks to advance west to east over our proximity Sunday afternoon – Monday morning.

As for now, parameters are aligned for widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms to occur. The main threat at this point looks to be strong winds. With this weather maker still 5-6 days out, keep in mind that changes will more than likely take place between now and then. The GFS thickness model below is valid for Monday morning at 12am. As you can see, this particular run suggests damp conditions advancing east toward south central Kentucky:
