Giant waves, strong winds, and heavy precipitation are affecting northern Ireland and northwest Scotland as a “weather bomb” hits the United Kingdom. Waves of up to 52 feet were recorded by buoy data 200 miles offshore, and winds gusted up to 70-80 mph in northwest Scotland. An amber “be prepared” severe weather warning has been issued by the UK Met Office, details which can be seen here. Up to 31,000 people have lost power as a result of the high winds, and ferry and rail services have been disrupted (BBC News).
