Increasing Temperatures Into the Weekend

Howdy folks, and happy Wednesday! With it being back-to-school season, these summer days have been flying by. Now that we are halfway through the work week, we will begin to see increasing temperatures into the weekend.

Sunny and Dry Conditions Sticking Around

How dry is your yard? Definitely been seeing some brown spots in yards, to the point where some rain would be a good thing. But, with the storms yesterday developing right on the KY/TN border and heading south, we barely missed out on some much needed rainfall.

Wednesday Forecast: Drier air and northwest winds are now flowing into our area, keeping skies dry and temperatures slightly more comfortable. Highs today will top out around 86ºF, with lower humidity and under sunny skies. We definitely could see some afternoon cumulus clouds, but not much else.

Overnight conditions remain quiet as well. Expect partly cloudy skies with calm winds. Temperatures will bottom out around 66ºF.

Rinse and Repeat

Not much change to the forecast for our Thursday or Friday other than increasing temperatures.

Thursday: High pressure is slowing moving in, which will help keep skies clear and dry. Afternoon temperatures will reach around 88ºF. Winds will remain out of the northwest, keeping dew points lower, which definitely will help with the humidity.

Skies remain quiet during the overnight hours. Mostly clear skies will help temperatures get down to around 65ºF.

Friday: Temperatures will begin to ramp up to end the work week. GFS guidance is suggesting that the high pressure will sit right on top of the Ohio Valley.

Afternoon temperatures will likely reach the lower 90s, with light and variable (practically none) surface winds. Try to get any outdoor chores done before Friday or Saturday.

Overnight temperatures could stick around 70ºF, which isn’t the greatest either for nighttime temperatures. Better relief from the heat would come from temperatures around 65ºF, but that won’t be the case for Friday night.

Dangerous Heat Possible for Weekend

Our weekend could be one to stay indoors and enjoy the AC. Stock up on ice cream while you can, because temperatures are going to be around 95ºF+ for Saturday and Sunday. Avoid long periods of outdoor activities during the afternoon hours. Pay attention to the risks associated with heat.

Other than the temperatures, skies should be dry for Saturday. We could see a few isolated storms pop on Sunday afternoon, but future blog posts will have a better handle on that.

That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Wednesday and rest of the week! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter, only at @wxornotBG.
