Unsettled Weather Continues Today

Good morning, friends, and happy Wednesday! Surely this week has been active with all of the showers and storms. Make sure to keep that umbrella close, because unsettled weather continues today and tomorrow.

Like a Broken Record Player

The forecast has been pretty much the same all week…showers and storms. Surely, it’s like a broken record player. Well, more of the same is expected for today.

We have been stuck with a low pressure system and associated frontal boundaries over our area, leading to continued showers and storms. For today, we do have the possibility of seeing some strong to severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our entire area in a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5).

The HRRR is hinting that we may see two waves of storms today. Showers and storms could begin to develop around 12-2pm, and the first round comes through our area around 5-7pm.

Then, another wave of showers and storms could come through later tonight. The HRRR hints that a second wave swings around the center of low pressure in Illinois. These storms could enter our area around 11 pm tonight, and exit by 3 am.

With high temperatures reaching 85ºF, there will not be a problem heating the atmosphere. The ingredients for strong to severe storms look to be in place, so confidence is growing in seeing some storms today.

Major impacts will be torrential downpours, damaging winds, and flash flooding. Even with nighttime storms possible, temperatures look to remain in the neighborhood of 70ºF, a bit warmer than our normal overnight temperatures.

More of the Same

Thursday will bring yet another chance for showers and storms. Now with the low pressure moving off, the “cold” front will finally pass though.

With the approaching front, we can expect to see some showers, maybe some rumbles of thunder, tomorrow morning and early afternoon. The NAM has most showers moving out of the area after 1pm. With temperatures around 82ºF, it’ll be another day of atmospheric heating, so a few thunderstorms could be possible.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel! After the passing of the cold front, skies will begin to clear and dry out. With clear skies overnight, temperatures will drop to a seasonal 65ºF.

Here Comes the Sun

Friday is a day we all look forward to. Not only is it the last day of the work week, but specifically this Friday will be our first day without any rain chances all week.

Friday will consist of mostly sunny skies, but we may see some afternoon clouds pop up. Temperatures will also climb back up near the 88º-90ºF range, a bit warmer than we’ve seen in a while. By the evening hours, skies may have a few more clouds, but winds will be light. Temperatures will dip to 70º-72ºF overnight.
