It Seems as if Winter Has Arrived

Good Sunday morning, folks! We have had quite the wild weekend of weather, ultimately resulting in it freezing outside. It seems as if winter has arrived.

Frigid Sunday

It is one of the coldest mornings that we have seen all winter, folks! I mean just look at these temperatures across the state.

And to think, we were sitting pretty in the upper 50s yesterday afternoon! Temperatures dropped like a rock behind that cold front, and led to the region waking up to a blanket of snow. Roads are not good out there, folks.

Luckily, we will see the sun shining here soon. We won’t have perfectly clear skies this afternoon, but a consistent sight of the sun will be a welcome sight to sore eyes.

It won’t help temperatures at all. Expect highs in the upper 20s at best this afternoon. Bundle up if you have any plans to go anywhere today, as a north and northwesterly wind will make it even colder!

Pretty Normal, Winter Monday

Monday looks to be pretty normal by winter’s standards. Many won’t have work or school, celebrating MLK Day! This will eliminate any left over snow issues there would be on side roads, etc. any other day!

Sunshine looks to dominate much of the day, but it definitely won’t feel like it outside. Highs are expected to only get into the upper 20s and lower 30s across the region.

High clouds are expected to move into the region later in the day ahead of our next system beginning to move into the central part of the country.

Tuesday is a Normal Winter Day by This Winter’s Standards

Okay folks, get ready. Tuesday will see in and out cloud coverage, becoming overcast as we head into the evening. At the surface, strong winds will be sustained in the 15-20 mph range, gusting into the 30 mph range. Where have you heard that before?

Yep, that is our typical 2018-2019 Winter day. Temperatures will spike on Tuesday evening, so the high may be a bit misleading. Temperatures will rapidly rise from the mid 20s into the mid 40s.

I think we make a run at 50 before midnight Wednesday, so I think our high will be odd. But yeah. It’ll be cloudy and windy ahead of a cold front again.

The rain approaches Tuesday night, and it is looking like we may pick up another 1″-2″ of rainfall out of this system. The cold front is expected to blast through on Wednesday morning, with a sharp temperature drop, and maybe some snow on the backside.

Late Week Looks Wild

So, we may have some snow showers post cold front on Wednesday. They don’t look to be significant right now, but it looks a little like a lite version of this weekends system.

Then all things go wild. We may see some of the coldest air of the season Friday and Saturday. This would push in behind a quick moving front on Thursday evening, plunging us into a truly arctic airmass.

Trust me, I'm not excited about it either. (Giphy)

We still have a looooong way to go in this forecast, but next weekend could have some more shenanigans. Stay tuned.

Well, that is all I have folks! Have a wonderful day, and be sure to follow @wxornotBG on Twitter and Facebook for the latest!
