A Wet Weekend In Store

Good morning and happy Saturday y’all! A strong system will be making its way into the area which makes for a wet weekend in store.

The roads may be wet due to the snow and rain that accumulated last night. Temperatures are in the mid-30s. This weekend’s weather-maker is to our west and is expected to move into the area later today.

In the Warm Sector of the System

The title will give you an overall expectation from today’s system. While precipitation is expected, most of it will be in the form of rain. South central Kentucky will remain in the warm sector of the system, which means rain for the most part.

The warm sector of a system typically takes place ahead of the cold front and behind the warm front. This area is warmer due to southerly winds. Winds from the south are also known to contribute a lot of the moisture into our atmosphere.

Rain will start back up in the early afternoon and temperatures will stay above freezing and increase into the low-40s.

As the sun goes down, temperatures will hit a low right around 40°. Since the temperature will remain above freezing into the night, ice or snow is not much of a concern during the nighttime hours.

Continued Rain Chances for Sunday

The cold front of the system is expected to pass through early Sunday morning, which means a shift in our winds and temperatures. Slightly colder conditions are expected for tomorrow night. Rain is expected tomorrow morning and will fizzle out as the day continues.

The northerly winds will draw in colder temperatures from Canada, which will result in a low temperature in the low-30s for tomorrow night.

A Wet Weekend in Store

This low-pressure system is the reason for such a wet weekend. While snow is not really expected, the atmosphere may still be cold. Bring that winter jacket and one that sheds water if possible.
