Howdy folks, and Happy Wednesday. Hopefully you all had a great New Years and are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead. Even though the new year is exciting, gloomy weather to begin 2019 is not so exciting.
Not Much Change
Our first day of the year was pretty dreary, and unfortunately, our Wednesday will be very similar. Dominated by thick clouds, today will remain overcast with slight chances for scattered precipitation.
The HRRR model hints at the possibility of some light showers around noon, and again this evening around 6pm, but for most of us, it should only be a scattered drizzle to very light rain. The HRRR model (below) shows that most rain will stay just south of our area.
As for temperatures, they look to be average. High temperatures will top out in the mid 40’s, and lows for tonight will be in the mid 30’s ( low temperature is a little warmer than average for this time of year). Winds will remain calm, but an umbrella would be useful if you do get caught in some annoying drizzle/light rain.
Temporary Relief from the Dreary Conditions
By tomorrow morning, the pesky rain showers in our vicinity will be exiting. With that, there is a glimmer of hope for some clearing skies and sunshine.
An area of high pressure will be filling in behind the rain showers, but only for a short time.
High temperatures look to stay consistent with the past few days, and should be in the mid 40s. Our next chance of rain looks to arrive between tomorrow night and Friday mid-morning.
With the next system coming, clouds will be on the increase overnight. Low temperatures will drop into the mid 30s once again, and winds look to remain calm and out of the north-northeast.
Heavier Rain Arrives Friday
A new low pressure system will be skirting just south of us, and will bring heavier rains. The current weather models have pushed back the arrival of rain from Thursday evening to 9am-noon on Friday.
Rain showers look to persist throughout the day, and eventually end around midnight Friday night into Saturday morning. As of right now, the models predict temperatures to remain above freezing. Speaking of temperatures, the high should be in the mid 40s, and lows in the mid 30s.
So how much rain are we talking? The GFS model currently thinks we could receive up to 0.8 inches of rain, and maybe an inch for Simpson and Allen Counties.
