Snow Showers Move Out Today Before Next Precipitation Chances Arrive Later on Thursday

Howdy friends! While some of you may have enjoyed the snow, I’m sure others were not as excited. Luckily, snow showers move out today before next precipitation chances arrive later on Thursday.

Snow Showers Moving Out By Mid Morning

Our entire area remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until 11 AM today. Around that same time is when the snow flurries are expected to be moving out of the region.

Your morning commute may have some slick spots on the roads, especially near bridges and overpasses, as well as secondary/side roads. Some primary routes may be impacted as well, so be extra cautious this morning. The good news is that your evening commute looks to be nice.

Once the snow showers/flurries move out this morning, our skies will begin to gradually clear up. Thanks to a high pressure system to our south, we will have fairly light winds out of the west.

Even though skies will partly clear and it’ll be dry, thermometers should only hit the mid 30’s. I know this isn’t the greatest, but it is December. By tonight, skies should be partly clear, with temperatures dipping into the mid 20’s.

Light Rain/Snow Chances Arrive Late Thursday

Those partly clear skies will carry over tonight into tomorrow. However, clouds will be increasing throughout the day before our next weather system comes to town.

Tomorrow will be much warmer than today. Temperatures will hit the mid 40’s during the day, with winds from the southwest. Winds will predominantly be around 10 mph, but we could have some gusts around 20 mph.

As the cold front approaches our area tomorrow evening, above freezing temperatures will keep precipitation as light rainfall. By the evening hours (9-11pm), weather models hint at temperatures finally dipping below 32ºF, and precipitation should transition to light snow. Temperatures look to be in the upper 20’s overnight.

The good news is that moisture associated with this cold front looks to be limited, so any accumulation overnight is expected to be very light. Precipitation is also going to be scattered across Kentucky. The main impact will once again be a few slick spots on the morning commute.

Dry Friday Ahead

After this cold front exits our area, dry conditions will return once more.

Temperatures will reach the upper 30’s, with winds out of the northeast. We will be situated between a surface low pressure (to our southeast) and a surface high pressure (to our northwest). Unfortunately, our skies look to remain mostly cloudy, but at least it’ll be dry.

Bundle up for Friday night. Temperatures will drop to the upper 20’s, and clouds will be on the increase overnight and into Saturday.

Weekend Outlook

There is potential for a winter weather event to unfold across our area this weekend. While it is way too early to begin talking about rain/snow/ice amounts, it is a good idea to start paying some attention to it. Of course, we will provide many forecast updates prior to this system arriving.
