Major Rain Haunts Halloween Evening

Good morning, wizards and vampires, and Happy Halloween! While we enjoyed nice weather the past few days, major rain haunts Halloween evening. A slow moving cold front will stall over our area, bringing soaking conditions through the end of the workweek.

Wicked Wednesday Weather

The high pressure system that brought sunny skies for our area the past few days is now working its way off the East coast. Clouds will be increasing throughout the day today as the cold front approaches from the northwest. Winds will be out of the south, all because of the location of the high pressure.

Hold onto your broomsticks everyone, winds will be 10-15 mph, with afternoon gusts up to 25 mph possible.

The strong winds out of the south will help raise high temperatures into the lower 70’s again. Winds will continue out of the south tonight before the cold front passes over, so expect low temperatures only in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.

Trick-or-Treat Forecast

A Flood Watch for our entire area will go into effect at 7:00 (CDT) tonight, and will remain until 7:00am (CDT) on Friday.

Model guidance is showing scattered showers moving into south central Kentucky around mid afternoon, and continuing through peak trick-or-treat time. There are no severe storms expected tonight, but bring an umbrella or rain jacket in case. The good news is that the bulk of heavier rain looks to come later tonight and into tomorrow. If you plan on going out tonight, be smart and stay up to date with the radar and weather forecast.

Water-logged Thursday Ahead

The cold front looks to bring the heavier bands of rain through our area by tomorrow. Bowling Green and surrounding areas are still expected to receive between 2-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible. While there is no severe threat for tomorrow, a few embedded storms and rumbles of thunder could occur. Here is the latest from the National Weather Service:

The model guidance has been consistent on high rainfall totals along the Ohio River, but that does not mean we won’t have any issues. The main impacts we could see include ponding water in streets or parking lots with slower drainage systems, and quick rises in creeks and streams. It won’t be a bad idea to leave 10 minutes early tomorrow when taking the kids to school, just in case there are any road or traffic issues.

Expect rainy conditions throughout the entire day tomorrow, with high temperatures only reaching the low 60’s. Winds will shift from out of the north tomorrow afternoon, and will still be around 10-15 mph. The afternoon hours could see wind gusts up to 25 mph as well. Low temperatures for tomorrow night will drop to the mid 40’s.

Lower Chance for Rain on Friday

The greatest chance for rain on Friday looks to be in the morning hours, but light showers later in the day cannot be ruled out completely. High temperatures for Friday will be around the mid-50’s, with winds finally calming down to being predominantly out of the northeast at 5-10 mph.

Friday evening and overnight will finally break up some of the clouds, which will help low temperatures drop to the upper 30’s.
