Much Cooler Weather Today, With Storms Possible Monday

Hey folks! Yesterday was so awesome, wasn’t it!? Temperatures in the 70s and college basketball on for much of the day! It doesn’t get much better than that. Unfortunately, expect much cooler weather today, with storms possible Monday.

A Cool Sunday in Store

Your Sunday is likely to start off with cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 40s across the region.

These clouds look likely they’ll hang pretty tough today, so don’t expect this afternoon to be quite as sunny and wonderful as Saturday’s was. We’ll have breaks in the clouds, but it won’t be a fully sunny day.

Highs this afternoon are only expected to get into the upper 50s. Clouds will likely remain overnight, and increase even as a warm front approaches the region from the southwest.

This should keep lows elevated in the upper 40s.

Storms Monday?

Ah, yes. The question of the weekend and the day has been how far north the warm front will get as this low pressure system moves towards us during the day on Monday.

It is a very important question, because it will separate the regions that see storms from those that do not.

The models have been a little bit all over the place, but have come into relatively good agreement that this warm front will make it to near or just north of the Tennessee border and stop.

The warm front looks to be *just* to our south. h/t COD Weather

Ahead of this warm front, there will likely be showers to deal with. Those should take a break and then continue into the afternoon as the low pressure system approaches us from the west.

Those showers may contain some thunder with them, but it isn’t likely. h/t pivotalweather.com

Areas not more than 50 miles to our south may end up with a hearty severe weather event, while we sit underneath moderate to heavy rainfall tomorrow afternoon, and that is a good thing. For now, our severe threat looks limited.

Most of us are in a Marginal Risk for severe weather on Monday, but the highest threat is to our south across Middle TN. h/t SPC

Highs tomorrow are only expected to get into the upper 50s, with clouds and on/off rain expected much of the day. I will note this: if the warm front were to move further north, and our region get into the warm sector, then there would be a very real increase in severe threat on Monday.

Cold on Tuesday

One thing is for sure: the cold air behind this Monday system looks legit.

Cold air will begin filtering in on Monday night, and looks to settle in across the region for Tuesday and Wednesday. The Monday system looks to reorganized to our east, and may bring more precipitation on way on Tuesday.

Now, there is a chance that this precipitation is initially in the form of rain, and then changes to light snowfall. I see no reason to not buy it given we’ll be cold from the air mass, and thick cloud cover will be present.

There is a chance that we see more snow by Tuesday afternoon. *rolls eyes* h/t giphy.com

Either way, it doesn’t look impactful. Highs on Tuesday shouldn’t get out of the upper 30s and lower 40s, with temps falling gradually through the day.
