Friday Afternoon Winter Storm Update

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for our entire area through 4am tomorrow morning.

We’ve been seeing off-and-on freezing rain since this morning and at times this has mixed with some sleet. Temperatures remain below freezing early this afternoon after the front passed this morning.

We’ve spent the late morning in a relative lull in heavier precipitation but we’ve been dealing with pesky freezing mist blanketing the area and in some areas, it’s been able to stick to some surfaces. We’ve been getting pictures and reports from around the area.

This trend should continue as a precipitation shield begins to develop this afternoon and steadily move our way. This should initially be sleet but will change to all snow later in the afternoon as the upper levels of the atmosphere begin to cool.

As for totals, the realtive dry slot that’s worked it’s way through the region this afternoon, our totals may be cut down just a touch from the thinking this morning. Total snow and sleet amounts look to be between 2-3 inches throughout the area once the snow starts this afternoon and continues through the evening hours. In addition, up to a quarter inch of ice total will also be possible, though some of this has already fallen.

If you don’t have to venture out this afternoon, you shouldn’t but if you have to make sure to keep adequate distance behind the car in front of you and exercise caution.
