Bitterly Cold New Year’s Eve Forecast

I hope you were able to get out and enjoy yesterday’s “warm temperatures”. A cold front moving through the region this morning will lead to dropping temperatures throughout the day today. High temperatures will occur this morning! The HRRR model says temperatures will be around 30° at noon. Given northwest winds, conditions will feel even colder. A few flurries may be possible from time to time as well.

Lows will drop all the way to around 11° overnight under partly cloudy skies. Northerly winds will make it feel much closer to 0°!

High pressure in Montana will push cold air into the region from the north. This will lead to Sunday afternoon highs only reaching around 23° under mostly sunny skies. Northerly winds will once again make it feel much colder as well.

Very Cold New Year’s Eve

A bitterly cold New Year’s Eve is on tap for the region. Temperatures will be around 11° to ring in 2018. Temperatures will continue to drop to around 8° Monday morning. Be sure to find some way to stay warm if you’re celebrating outdoors.

The cold will continue to be impressive New Year’s day. The cold area of high pressure will work closer to the region, leading to afternoon highs right around 20°. There’s a chance we don’t even make it out of the teens! The European Model is suggesting temperatures will be around 25 degrees below normal Monday morning.

Dangerous Cold to Begin 2018

Monday night may be the coldest night of this stretch of cold weather. Temperatures are expected to drop into the low to mid single digits. This will lead to dangerous wind chills likely below zero. The National Weather Service issued the statement below regarding cold conditions.
