If you like active weather, then you have come to the right week. This week is looking to have about as active a pattern as we had a couple weeks ago, only without the every-other-day severe weather chances. I’m sort of happy about that, because it makes my life just a bit simpler. However, that level of simplicity really doesn’t get high this week. We have a couple of tougher forecasts on the way, but that is okay. I plan to try and nail them down!
Today, we’re starting off with plenty of clouds and relatively warm temps. Generally, most of the state is sitting in the 60s thanks to those clouds, as they locked us into warmer temps all night last night.

So, as we progress through the day, expect the thick clouds to gradually move northward and give way to partly to mostly clouds skies across the region. Winds look to shift from easterly to southerly, pumping in some warmer temps for this afternoon. As a weak atmospheric disturbance approaches, this should fire off some scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon hours.
These don’t look to be severe, but any storm can produce heavy rain and lightning, so be aware of that!
Looking ahead to tomorrow, the day looks relatively calm as a whole. Temps look to warm into the lower 80s during the afternoon, and this might bring about some isolated thunderstorm activity during the afternoon, but nothing too crazy is expected. Today looks to have better storm chances than tomorrow does.

On Thursday, a stronger system moves our way. A disturbance and associated surface low will be moving into the Great Lakes region, dragging a cold front into the region by Thursday evening. Ahead of this, winds will be flowing from the southwest under partly cloudy skies, and they’ll be strong too. This will warm things up into the mid 80s.
By Thursday evening, we will have plenty of instability built up in the atmosphere for a nice batch of thunderstorms to move into the region. These will be along the cold front, and will likely bring with them heavy rain and lightning as their main threats. There is an isolated chance for a strong wind gust or two, but that isn’t the main threat.
Overall, just an active week is on tap across the region. Also: watch out for Saturday. It isn’t set in stone, but that may be our next severe weather maker.
