Great Weekend Forecast Ahead

wxornotBG 3/31/17: Cloudy, cooler today, but this weekend looks MUCH nicer!

Phew, just to start things off, yesterday went much better than I (and I know a lot of other forecasters) thought it would. There were a few questions marks heading into the day, with the biggest one being quality of moisture. Well, there was a strong area of thunderstorms over the northern Gulf of Mexico that robbed us of moisture. This lowered the severe weather threat, and we ended up with just some weak storms for most.

I’m thankful for that, though. At the end of the day, I my severe weather forecasts to bust if people are gonna be harmed. Thankfully for the next few days, everything is looking calmer than this week was.

The current mid and upper low that gave us the rainfall yesterday will be propagating to the east, but it’ll be leaving westerly to northwesterly winds in its wake. In addition to residual low-level clouds, this will make it feel more like a late winter day. Look for highs to only make it to the upper 50s today.

Wait, why have we gone back to the 50s for highs? h/t pivotalweather.com

It is not exciting to day the least, but life goes on! Especially considering how nice this weekend is looking.

Clouds look to give way to partly sunny skies tomorrow afternoon, and highs will respond accordingly. We should see pretty warm temps in the lower 60s tomorrow, and it’ll just be a good overall day. You can go fishing, run a mile, or go for a hike (or watch a depressing Final Four).

Just don’t do this this weekend. h/t giphy.com

By Sunday, our next system will be approaching from the west, but not after giving us an afternoon of Sunshine. We’ll see sunny skies, and then a quick increase in mid and upper level cloud cover. Even with this, look for highs to jump into the upper 60s and lower 70s.

This is how excited I am. h/t giphy.com

How good does that weekend forecast look!? Next week looks about as active as this one does, with several storm systems looking to track through the region and bringing rain and storms.
