Discussion
This forecast will mostly consist of gloominess and cloudiness, because those are the only things we have really seen in quite sometime.
It has been a relatively benign pattern as of late, with temperatures remaining consistently cool and clouds being a commonality. We have also had plenty of days of rainfall, so I am sure that some of you are tired of it. We still need the rain, though, so we will take what we can get.
The rainfall today is in response to a weak, fast moving shortwave approaching the region as we speak. While the radar is showing a well defined area of precipitation approaching the region, we are currently entrenched in some fairly dry air in the lower levels of the atmosphere. This may be an issue that the precip has to overcome to actually even make it to the ground, so we may not even see rain this morning.
The lower levels need to saturate from the precip, and if that happens, then we should see some rainfall. Outside of that, its gonna be tough. To our north, they are currently seeing freezing rain/snow, though. I guess it is good that we aren’t seeing that!

By this afternoon, whatever precip that was falling should be moving on out and leaving us with cloud cover. This will be the beginning of the next cold shot as a very deep trough digs into southern Canada. This is associated with a piece of the infamous “Polar Vortex” (which is a legit meteorological entity). This will feed very cold air into the region by Thursday. Temps over the next couple days likely won’t get out of the 30s, and Thursday won’t get out of the upper 20s!
Bowling Green Weather is looking real cold the next few days. Wednesday through Friday, be sure to bundle the kids up for the bus stop! Temperatures in the teens aren’t anything to mess with, so take caution.
Today’s Key Points
- Light precip possible today
- Atmosphere needs to moisten up to get rainfall
- Very, very cold weather headed our way Wed. through Friday
- Storms Saturday? Maybe.
