Forecast Discussion

During the beginning of the forecast period, a strong ridge located to the west of the region will begin to amplify. This will lead to weak, longwave troughing over the eastern United States.

This will bring us into northerly flow for much of the forecast period, especially after today. Northwest and northern flow means temperatures should cool down dramatically for the time being!

The only real weather maker to speak of in this forecast period is the cold front that will move through the region today. This cold front will bring a chance of scattered showers and storms to the region. Severe thunderstorms are not expected at this time due to the lack of instability in the atmosphere.

After today, surface high pressure will settle in north of the region. The clockwise rotating winds around the high pressure will lead to weak northerly flow at the surface, as well as aloft. This will cool us down effectively. Temperatures on Wednesday may struggle to reach the 80s!

Extended Outlook

Northwest flow looks to continue for the last week of June and first week of July. This will continue to provide us with mild conditions across the region. However, a frontal boundary may stall across the region this weekend, leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday. However, stay tuned to the latest forecasts for more details!
