Forecast Discussion

A big upper level ridge is parked over the region for the time being. This means that synoptically speaking, not a lot will be going in the upper levels of the atmosphere during this forecast time period. AKA “Boring”.

This ridge will begin to break down and move west during the end of the forecast period, allowing for northerly flow to occur. This may help cool off temperatures in the beginning to middle of this week.

A cold front is located well to the west of the region during the beginning of the forecast period. Convergence along this frontal boundary will cause numerous showers and thunderstorms to form to the west of the region. Due to fairly unstable air across the region. A few showers and storms can’t be ruled out today. Any storms that do form will produce very heavy rain due to high precipitable water values.

More widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected Monday as the aforementioned front continues to work through the region. At this time, no severe weather is expected. However, stay tuned to later forecasts to see if this changes. Thunderstorms may produce heavy rain and gusty winds.

High pressure will build into the region, as well as northerly flow across the region. This should lead to fair conditions across the region. Some models have weak disturbances moving through the region on Wednesday. However, I will hold off on rain chances until new data arrives. Mild conditions are expected due to the northerly flow.

Extended Outlook

Overall, northwest to northerly flow looks to be in place across the region next week. This will lead to more mild conditions next week. High pressure also looks to be locked in place for the most part, leading to mostly dry conditions. Wet weather may make a return to the forecast late in the work week. Overall, the long term doesn’t look too bad!
