Discussion

Got Heat? I sure do! It’s just been plain hot out there. Luckily, though, dewpoints haven’t been all that high, so we’ve stayed away from that sticky feeling. Unfortunately, that dreaded humidity is looking to rear its ugly head today…

Dewpoints are forecasted to rise into the low 70’s today due to some added atmospheric moisture. With temperatures reaching the low to mid 90’s across the state and dewpoints rising into the 70’s, there will be increased atmospheric instability. A cold front moving through from the northeast will act as a lifting mechanism alongside the increased atmospheric instability. This will lead to some isolated thunderstorm chances across the state.

Precipitation chances for tonight decrease drastically, leaving us with partly cloudy skies. Monday looks a whole lot like today, except maybe a degree or two cool down. It isn’t much, but I’ll take it! This same frontal system will still be in play across the state, acting as a sufficient lifting mechanism for thunderstorm activity. This, combined with daytime heating, will produce more isolated/scattered thunderstorms for the afternoon and evening.

Precipitation chances will increase healthily for Tuesday, as quite a bit of atmospheric moisture from the Gulf looks to surge into the area. Highs for Tuesday will be in the mid 90’s, and lows for Tuesday evening will be in the mid 70’s.

Extended Outlook

It looks as though the upper-level ridge that we are currently under will deamplify and weaken, allowing us to get a little bit more interesting weather. Once this ridge begins to weaken a bit more, this will set us up for some shortwave troughs to move through. These troughs will likely cause us to see more rain and thunderstorms during the second half of the workweek and into the weekend.

That’s all I got! Remember to stay in touch with @WxOrNotBG for the latest real-time weather info. Have a wonderful day and stay cool!
