Tropical Storm Colin’s Weather News of the Day

Tropical Storm Colin is currently churning in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, nearing landfall on the western side of the peninsula. Colin is still really disorganized, and hasn’t strengthened very much today. He is still sitting at 50 mph, with his central pressure falling to 1001 mb. Honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him make an extratropical transition at some point soon, and the NHC has that forecast to occur by tomorrow afternoon.

The system just is lacking in organization, and isn’t very strong. Despite this, gusty winds and heavy rainfall are expected from the western peninsula of Florida up through the southern regions of the Carolinas over the next day.

The Tropics Are Heating up

In addition to Tropical Storm Colin, Tropical Depression one formed in the eastern Pacific this afternoon.

It is fairly weak and disorganized, but has up to 35 mph sustained winds. The lifespan of this system was short to begin with, but is growing increasingly limited as it approaches the southwestern coast of Mexico. It will likely produce heavier rainfall across the region, but nothing more.

European Weather is Crazy

In addition to the interestingly cool tornadoes that I wrote about earlier, much of France is seeing some incredible flooding across the country. This is hitting Paris especially hard, as the Seine River has approached record levels, and rose to levels, “…not seen in more than 30 years…” according to CNBC.

This has impacted the entire city, and many have had to evacuate form their homes. Museums have even had to rush many of their prized art pieces away from the flooding for fear of damage to them.

Weather Here has Gotten Boring

We are about to entire a summer time pattern, as outlined by our own Jacob Wilkins this morning in the Extended outlook. I want to emphasize just how boring the pattern looks after Thursday.

The only sensible weather (outside of pop up storms) that looks to be anywhere long term looks to be not in the Ohio Valley region, or really the central portion of the country. A strong ridge is gonna become established across this portion of the country, leading to warmer temperatures and less interesting weather.
