Rain, Rain, Go Away

Real-Time Bowling Green Radar:

Today – Showers/Thunderstorms – High 81˚ / Tonight – Thunderstorms – Low 60˚

Howdy, Bowling Green! I know they say that April showers bring May flowers, but what do May showers bring? I don’t know, but we are fixing to find out!

As that low pressure system works its way closer to our area, we will see showers and thunderstorms again today. According to the weather models, most of the morning rain will be gone by mid to late morning. Once this rain pushes eastward, the clouds should start to clear for several hours in the afternoon. Depending on how quickly these clouds push through, the atmosphere will start to heat convectively throughout the afternoon. This heating of the atmosphere could set us up for some potentially strong/severe weather for the evening.

Based on the drier morning hours and the clouds clearing, plenty of atmospheric instability will build during the afternoon hours. As more storms move through the area later tonight, the atmosphere will have a lot of energy to tap into, allowing these storms to be potentially severe. The main threat for these storms will be damaging winds and hail, so please be careful. Make sure to pay close attention to your local meteorologists because the potential for severe weather tonight is linked to the amount of atmospheric heating we get during the afternoon today.

By the late evening to early morning hours when the cold front finally pushes through the region, the severe weather threat diminishes, leaving only small rain chances. Highs for today will be in the upper 80’s, and lows will be right around the 60 degree mark.

Monday – Chance of Showers – High 73˚ / Monday Night – Chance of Showers – Low 54˚

Monday will seem fairly boring compared to Sunday, as only small rain chances return to the area. A shortwave trough in the upper atmosphere will drop southward and interact with a broad surface trough. This will result in some small rain chances for our area; however, these rain chances will be slight and widespread. I would bring an umbrella with you as you head into work just in case!
