Windy Wednesday Weather Update

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today, 11/11 – Clouds Increasing – High 72˚ / Tonight – Showers and Storms, Some Severe – Low 53˚

Fall brings some interesting variations in weather conditions, as one day could be sunny and 75° and then another, rainy and barely 50°. We’ve seen just that in the past week or so, and the weather conditions will only continue to keep us guessing today.

If you’ve been checking in with us here at WxOrNotBG, you know that today has been looked at in terms of severe weather potential since late last week. While severe weather remains possible over our area later on today/tonight, the greatest risk has continuously shifted north and west with the SPC’s Enhanced Risk for severe storms currently over parts of Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri.

A deepening low pressure system forming in the Great Plains will continue to track northeastward towards the Great Lakes with a trailing cold front passing through our region completely by tomorrow morning. Upper-level and mid-level winds will be very supportive for this evening’s conditions, and winds at the surface will definitely be affected!

Strong fronts cause strong gradients in pressure, which result in gusty winds at the surface. Today we could see winds up to 16 mph with gusts in the upper 20s. As far as severe weather goes, damaging winds look to be the main threat to keep an eye on this evening and overnight. Temperatures will hike up to around 70° for our high today due to the strong warm front associated with the low pressure system. Lows overnight will drop back into the low 50s as the cold front begins passing through.

Thursday, 11/12 – Mostly Sunny & WINDY – High 60˚ / Thursday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 38˚

Once the storms diminish late tonight, the rest of the forecast period looks pretty cool and dry (but VERY windy!)! The cold front will continue to move through Thursday morning, with colder air filling in gradually behind it. Because the air does take some time to cool even with the strong advection, the high temperature Thursday will be right around 60°.

Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies as dew points drop and clouds clear out. Thursday night will be mostly clear and cool, with low temperatures in the upper 30s. About a 30° temperature change in a little over an hour!

Friday 11/13 – Sunny and Pleasant – High 56˚ / Friday Night – Mostly Clear and COLD – Low 32˚

Friday will be another nice, but windy, fall day with high temperatures continuing to drop and high pressure building back into the region. Sunny skies will be present with cool, dry air and highs in the mid-50s. The average high temperature for this time of year is 62°.

Conditions Friday night will be very COLD – looks like we’ll drop to right at or below freezing! So be sure to dress appropriate if you’re heading out Friday night because it will be a chilly one!
