Much Cooler Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today, 9/30 – Scattered Showers- High 70˚ / Tonight – Cloudy – Low 55˚

Good morning, Bowling Green! This time last week I was writing about how we were going to experience a warm start to the fall season. This week, I’m forecasting a major cool down for Bowling Green, just in time for fall break for WKU students! So as you’re heading home and taking a few days off, be sure to get out that hoodie and pair of jeans because fall is here.

With a cold front passing through the region, much cooler temperatures are expected for the rest of the week. Scattered showers will continue to lag and stick around for today, as high pressure slowly works its way back toward us. As far as temperatures go, we’re looking at highs in the upper-60s to maybe around 70°, 7° to 10° cooler than the climate normal.

Tonight, these scattered showers should taper off and leave cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-50s.

Thursday, 10/1 – Mostly Cloudy – High 68˚ / Thursday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 53˚

Temperatures will continue to decrease Thursday for the first day of October!

Winds from the north will work to keep our air cool, while moisture pours into our region from the Atlantic. Although we won’t see rain Thursday (besides maybe a few isolated showers), the moisture in the air will allow clouds to linger and temperatures to remain in the mid to upper-60s. We may see a few glimpses of sun, but the models are currently calling overcast skies across the board for the forecast period.

Thursday night will bring temperatures back into the low to mid-50s. The cloudy weather will prevent the difference between the daytime temperatures and the nighttime temperatures from becoming very great.

Friday 10/2 – Mostly Cloudy – High 65˚ / Friday Night – Mostly Cloudy & COOL – Low 49˚

Temperatures will really start to cool down beginning Friday and moving into the weekend. By Friday, two upper-level lows – one over the deep south, one over the Great Lakes – will cut off in a dumbbell shape. The more southern of the two will move eastward Friday and into the weekend, bringing more moisture and northerly winds into our region. This calls for more clouds and cool temperatures.

Also, from this configuration there is a possibility for precipitation to retrograde from the coast back towards our region, depending on how the upper-level lows evolve. Not to mention, we have Tropical Storm Joaquin to take into consideration as well. A chance for isolated showers is not out of the question, especially to our east.

By Friday, we’re looking at highs around 65° at best. Lows will drop into the upper 40s overnight!
