Heat And Storms Consume Our Weather

Real-time BG Radar:

Today: Hot and humid. Isolated to scattered storms possible. High around 90ºF. Tonight: Isolated storm chances remaining. Low around 74ºF.

To be completely honest with you, the past few weeks have been about what you would expect from summer, and that is boring. It gets really hot for  2 to 3 days, we have isolated storms thrown in there too. Then, a front comes in, we get a lot of rain and poof. The heat is gone for a day or two.

Well, repeat that this week. Today looks really hot. And uncomfortable. First of all, to start your day off, you are looking at mid 70s for temperatures. Pair that with dewpoints in the upper 60s and lower 70s, and you are bound for an uncomfortable commute to work.

Several of the models are also pointing at the development of some showers and thunderstorms during the morning hours. They look like they’ll be hitting between the time you get up and the time mid morning rolls around -7 to 10 am ish- so be on the lookout for that.

As we head into the afternoon hours, it will get downright uncomfortable. If we have the storms, it’ll likely clear out fast enough to where it gets hot and extra muggy. If this morning’s storms don’t materialize as I see, then it’s just going to get hotter and more muggy. Heat index values will be in the 100ºF to 105ºF range.

The evening hours will see the typical storm threat, so be on the lookout for that. An isolated storm threat will remain into the overnight hours, with temperatures bottoming to a muggy 74ºF.

Wednesday: Scattered storms likely, and hot. Highs around 92ºF. Wed. night: Storms exiting, with gradual clearing. Lows around 70ºF.

Well, in my Summer Weather theory, as stated above, this would be the third day in a row of very hot conditions.

How many sweat gifs are in existence? I have likely used them all. Your day is looking to start off hot and muggy. Look for a breakfast temperature of around 74 or 75 degrees, making that morning coffee feel extra hot.

During the day, cold front will be dragging behind a strong low pressure system that is moving through southern Canada today. This will move into an unstable environment, creating a perfect summer scenario for thunderstorms to blossom across the region.

Though atmospheric dynamics will be rather weak, there is always a chance that we see and isolated damaging wind gust or hail report. Because of this, the SPC has outlined us in a Marginal Risk for severe weather.

Be aware of that. Outside of any thunderstorm that forms, we should all be on the lookout for a very high heat index. The combination of high temps and dewpoints will make it difficult to sustain extended outdoor activities in the afternoon. Be sure to pack extra water if you do have outdoor plans.

Overnight, the front will move in, ushering in a new air mass that will drop the low into the upper 60s or lower 70s, and will drop those dewpoints!

Thursday: Cooler. Becoming mostly sunny, with a high of 86ºF. Thur. night: Clear. Low of 65ºF.

Ahh, this forecast fits perfectly to what I was talking about at the beginning of the post, and I am happy about that. Waking up on Thursday to begin your Friday eve, we will likely be seeing some cloud cover, but you’ll notice it’ll be amore pleasant 69ºF or 70ºF, with dropping dewpoints.

The rest of your Thursday actually looks fantastic. Once the clouds clear out, the highs will end up in the mid 80s, with much lower dewpoints in the lower 60s! This will create an awesome afternoon to do things….unless you’re stuck at work. Which I will be.

Oh well. The overnight hours are looking cool and clear again, with temps falling into the mid 60s.

Friday & Saturday: Mostly sunny. Highs ~ low 90s. Lows ~ low to mid 70s.

Just to preview the beginning of the weekend a bit, we look to be on the eastern fringe of a high pressure system over the central part of the US. While highs will reach into the lower 90s both days, dewpoints looking to be very bearable across the region. This, coupled with mostly sunny skies, should create for an awesome couple of days to spend outside.
