Flood Concern Overnight

Real-time BG Radar:

TONIGHTA cold front is approaching from the northwest, which has resulted in scattered showers and storms across the area today.  As this boundary continues to close in, multiple disturbances will ride along it, resulting in a heavy rain event unfolding.

The parameters making up our atmosphere is jam packed with available moisture.  Numerous rounds of showers and storms are expected.  Rain rates of up to 2″/hour will be possible with this particular setup.  This has resulted in a Flash Flood Watch being issued for all of south central Kentucky thru 7pm Wednesday evening.

Please be aware of rising water and the behavior of flood prone areas.  The ground is completely saturated, which will result in excessive runoff for those who receive additional rainfall.  Combine this with the fact that streams, rivers, creeks, etc. are already exceeding normal levels, and we have reason to consider a community Ark build.  Be smart and please don’t attempt to drive over water covered roadways.

WED 7/8:   [Wake Up: 73˚ High: 85˚]   As we stroll into our Wednesday, scattered showers and storms will continue, as the boundary begins to lift back north of the area, while transitioning to a warm front.

This should result in rain chances decreasing as we get into Wednesday afternoon and evening, with partly cloudy skies in place by Wednesday night.  Total rain amounts between now and Wednesday evening is expected to range between 1-3″.  This is illustrated by the QPF image below:

QPF valid thru 6pm Wednesday
QPF valid thru 7pm Wednesday

THU 7/9:   [Wake Up: 70˚ High: 87˚]   A mix of sun and clouds will continue to accompany us as we get into the latter part of the work week, with an isolated thunderstorm chance not out of the question.  An upper ridge will build in from the south, as a front dissipates as it crosses central Kentucky.  Thus, I believe the majority of us will remain dry.

That will wrap up the afternoon forecast post.  As always, stay in touch with @WxOrNotBG for the latest real-time weather information.  Have a great night, and remeber…Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
