Rain Returns for the Weekend

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today, 5/15 – Isolated Storms – High 84˚ / Tonight – Isolated Storms – Low 66˚

Good Friday morning, Bowling Green! Today is the very last day of finals for students at WKU (including myself), which means in a few short hours, summer vacation finally begins.

To account for this, warmer-than-normal temperatures and isolated storms will be moving through the area this weekend. Today, rain chances won’t be as widespread as the remainder of the weekend, but a few isolated showers and storms are not out of the question. Precipitation chances will increase this afternoon and into tonight, as the humidity ramps up and our air becomes more unstable.

Southerly winds will bring temperatures into the low to mid-80s across the area, with dew points hitting the 70° mark. Temperatures tonight will remain in the mid 60s – about 10° warmer than the average for this time of year.

Saturday, 5/16 – Sct’d Showers & Storms – High 79˚ / Saturday Night – Iso’d Storms – Low 67˚

If you’re heading out to the graduation ceremonies this weekend, be sure to pack an umbrella! An active weather pattern will be coming back into play, allowing the storm chances to continue during the next few days. Not enough atmospheric “ingredients” will be available to make these storms severe or organized, but plentiful moisture will allow them to be widespread.

Temperatures Saturday will be a few degrees cooler than today’s highs due to a greater amount of cloud cover. Showers and storms will remain isolated moving into the overnight hours, with temperatures dropping into the mid to upper-60s once again.

Sunday, 5/17 – Sct’d Showers & Storms – High 85˚ / Sunday Night – Sct’d Showers & Storms – Low 68˚

For Sunday – you guessed it – rain chances will continue. I guess we got a little too spoiled with the nice, sunny days over the past few weeks. Showers and storms will remained scattered throughout the day, with temperatures hitting the mid-80s due to strong southerly winds.

Since this rain is sticking around, be sure to keep your umbrella handy, and prepare for the return of the rain boots… Or just forget the umbrella and make the best of it.

More showers and storms are in store for Monday with the passage of a cold front, but don’t fret – some drier weather is on the way.
