Snow Chances Tonight & Thursday

**Winter Weather Advisory from 6pm this evening through 6am Thursday for Allen & Barren County**

This Afternoon – Cloudy – High 39˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 26˚

Cloud cover will hang around this afternoon, ahead of our next weather maker that will move in tonight.  A low pressure system will progress across the Gulf States, then head northeast along the East Coast. This will create the potential for scattered snow showers across south central Kentucky…

The following HRRR simulated radar model loops hourly from 8pm tonight through 2am Thursday morning.  It should give you an idea of how the snow may behave:

Minor accumulations will be possible with this event.  A dusting to 1/2″ seems reasonable, if anything at all.  A few of us could potentially see 1+”.  The most likely scenario for accumulating snow will be across the southeast tier of the area (Allen & Barren County), where a winter weather advisory will be in effect from 6pm tonight until 6am Thursday.

With the timing of this event, one must be weary of the potential for slick roadways.  Even though significant snow is not anticipated, light snow can still create slippery conditions…

Temperatures will fall below freezing as scattered snow showers move through, meaning anything that falls will stick.  If you’re traveling tonight into early Thursday morning, be cautious.

Thu 2/26 – Scat’d Rain/Snow Showers; Cloudy – High 34˚ / Thu Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 15˚

A moisture-starved cold front will approach the region from the northwest on Thursday, passing to our south during the afternoon.  This boundary will bring a round of hit and miss ran/snow showers to the area, with no accumulation expected.

Although we may not feel much impact from the vastly scattered rain/snow showers, we’ll definitely feel the cold shot that’ll follow.  After climbing to the 30s these past few days, Friday will be no bueno.

Fri 2/27 – Mostly Sunny – High 25˚ / Fri Night – Cloudy – Low 17˚

Rays of sunshine will reclaim the sky as we wrap up the work week, but that won’t stop south central Kentucky from suffering through another round of Arctic air.  Northerly winds will have temperatures struggling to reach the mid 20s by late afternoon.

There is relief on the horizon.  Our flow will turn southerly at the start of the weekend, combining with partly sunny skies to send temps into the upper 30s Saturday afternoon.  Our next weather maker will move in late Sunday, with southerly flow really amping up ahead of it.  This will sling temp readings to around 50˚!
