Sunday Morning Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today 2/8 – Iso’d Showers; Breezy – High 57º / Tonight – Scattered Showers – Low 40º

6am 48º – 9am 51º – 12pm 54º – 3pm 57º – 6pm 56º

Southern Kentucky has lucked out with some beautiful weather over the past two days but our luck will run out as rain chances return today. Currently, weak low pressure is deepening over Chicago, Illinois this morning. This low will drift east today and an associated cold front will bring rain showers to Kentucky today and tonight.

Ahead of the area of low pressure, temperatures are still running very warm across the region this morning. Low temperatures only reached the upper 40s overnight and we will see temperatures continue to rise this afternoon thanks to breezy southwesterly surface winds of 10-15mph. Cloud cover will prevent high temperatures from reaching 60º but we will see highs reach the upper 50s today.

Isolated showers are possible beginning later this morning and lasting into this afternoon. Rain showers will be very hit or miss today and the main rain chances will come with better forcing along the cold front tonight. Check out how the latest run of the 4km NAM model thinks the radar will look this evening.

Precipitation amounts will be light (<.10″) and surface winds will turn to the northwest after midnight as the cold front pushes east of our area. Low temperatures will drop down to around 40º by daybreak Monday.

Monday 2/9 – Iso’d AM Showers; Cloudy – High 42º / Monday Night – Decreasing Clouds – Low 27º

A surface cold front will be positioned just east of Kentucky by tomorrow morning meaning the chance for a few rain showers will linger into the start of the work week. Isolated showers will be possible before noon and clouds will be very slow to clear during the afternoon.

We will be in a colder air mass behind the front tomorrow and high temperatures will only reach the lower 40s. What happened to the 60º readings we saw this weekend?

Tuesday 2/10 – Mostly Sunny – High 47º / Monday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 27º

Beautiful weather will re-enter the forecast on Tuesday as the jet stream becomes more zonal. High temperatures are expected to reach the middle to upper 40s under mostly sunny skies. Low temperatures will fall into the upper 20s.

Quiet weather is expected to continue throughout the week although a shot of cold air could impact us by Wednesday night.
