Cold Set To Make A Return

Real-Time BG Radar:

Today: Increasing clouds; scat’d precip late – High 48ºF / Tonight: Cloudy, rain ending – Low 29ºF

Well, that was a quick turn around.

season
That just about does the speed of the change justice. h/t giphy.com

We went from winter to mild winter within a matter of a few days, and then we will be heading back to real cold winter by Tuesday. Today is gonna be another cloudy day, as a low pressure system moves its way out of the northern plains and to the southeast. This will be the same low that is looking to slam the northeast with snowfall on Monday night and Tuesday.

Before this meager low becomes the monster it will likely be, it will have to pass through us first. It is looking like we are gonna see highs spike into the upper 40s ahead of this system, but with some broad southwesterly flow, I wouldn’t be surprised to see temps approach 50 today.

The following 4km NAM model isn’t in complete agreement, displaying temperature readings in the mid 40s at 3pm this afternoon. At times model bias do not handle southwest flow very well, and with winds of 10-20 mph today, I think we’ll be warmer.

Rain will increase as we head into the evening hours, but will quickly move out as we head into the overnight hours. Behind the low pressure system, we may see winds kick up enough to call it “breezy” as the low will be deepening fairly rapidly to our east. Lows will dip into the upper 20s as clouds look to hang tough across the region.

Monday 1/26: Depressingly cloudy. High of 35ºF / Mon night: Flurries/light snow showers possible. Cloudy, with a low of 32ºF.

I can’t stress enough how boring the weather looks to be the majority of this forecast period. Today looks mundane, with clouds hanging very tough across the region as low level moisture looks to reside across our area. Highs will top out in the mid 30s, and more of the same will be found in the overnight hours.

Interestingly enough, it looks like we may catch some moisture flow off of the lake on Monday night, and some of the models are painting some light snowfall across the region. This will be something to watch, as the overnight hours may allow for some travel difficulties across the region.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high of 39ºF. Tues. night: Gradual clearing, with a low of 26ºF.

Tuesday follows suite, only we get to watch a weather bomb go off in the northeast.

That will be the most interesting thing to note in US weather going into the week, as our weather looks so boring. Clouds look to hang tough across the region again, keeping highs in the upper 30s. As we head into the overnight hours, we will see skies finally clear, and temps fall into the mid 20s.
