Bowling Green Weather is #StupidCold

Today 1/8 – Cold; Partly Sunny – High 22° / Tonight – “Warmer”; Mostly Cloudy – Low 19°

6 AM  3° (-3°) – 9 AM  6° (-2°) – Noon  15° () – 3 PM  20° (10°) – 6 PM  19° (10°)

Temperatures are just a few degrees above zero as we wake up this morning. This will make for a very cold day today.

Remain indoors if at all possible as gusty winds around 10 to 15 mph will make it feel significantly colder. All of south central Kentucky will remain under a Wind Chill Advisory until 9am. Conditions should make little improve throughout the day. Bundle up if you’re venturing out.

Windy conditions should die down some during the evening hours. However, we’ll only reach a high of 22°. Again, wind chills will make it feel like it is significantly lower than that (-5° to 10°) at times. Other than it being #StupidCold, a pretty nice day is on tap with partly cloudy skies expected.

A “warm front” is expected to move fairly close to the region during the evening and overnight hours. Thus, our lows won’t take as much of a tumble as they did last night. Lows will likely bottom out around 19° under mostly cloudy skies.

Friday 1/9 – Partly Cloudy; Scat’d Snow Showers – High 22°↓ / Fri Night – Cold; Clear – Low

On Friday we’ll be reminded that what the Lord giveth, the Lord can taketh away. Yep, another cold front will plow through the region, causing temperatures to drop after lunchtime. Before the front, you can expect a high around 22° across the region, under partly cloudy skies. Still, more cold? Just, no.

The good news is that the cold front isn’t oozing with moisture, but with that being said, a few scattered snow showers can’t be ruled out.  These look to be light and sporadic in nature, similar to what we experienced Wednesday morning.

The 4km NAM simulated radar model below, valid for 2am Friday morning, identifies this isolated/scattered, light snow potential:

Flurries may continue through midday, though I’m expecting skies to gradually clear through the afternoon. As far as accumulations are concerned, little to nothing can be expected.  Watch for a few slick spots on the morning commute.

The front will bring with it a reinforcing shot of cold air to Bowling Green. Lows will once again dip into the single digits as we get into late Friday night.

The wind won’t be too much of a factor Friday night, but it will still be pretty darn cold. Wind chills will likely remain between 0° and 5°. At least they don’t have a negative sign in front of them. ☺ Dance worthy?

Saturday 1/10 – Mostly Clear; Cold – High 26° / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 21°

High pressure that has been dominating the weather over the region will move a tad to the east of the region. The cyclonic (clockwise) flow of the high pressure will place the entire area under a southerly surface flow. This will help temperatures rebound a few degrees into the…. mid 20s!

Okay, yeah, it’s sad that I just got excited from a “heat wave” into the mid 20s, but I’ll take what I can get. Conditions should remain mostly clear throughout the day.

Saturday night will bring partly cloudy skies with lows dropping down into the lower 20s once more.

Active weather may occur again in the Bowling Green area on Sunday night into Monday. Right now it looks like a soaking, cold rain event is in the making, but stay tuned for more updates.

That’s all I have right now. Be sure to check out @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX for the latest Bowling Green weather details. Have a great day!
