Wednesday’s Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Mix of Sun & Clouds; Cold – High 30º/ Tonight – Mostly Clear; Cold — Low 21º

3pm 30º – 6pm 26º – 9pm 24º – 12am 22º – 3am 22º – 6am 21º

An unseasonably cold day has taken over Bowling Green weather as temperatures have struggled to reach the freezing mark. Early morning cloud cover gave way to partly-mostly sunny skies this afternoon but had little effect on the thermometer readings.

Surface high pressure will continue its dominance across the Ohio and Tennessee Valley Region tonight as cold air remains in place. Mostly clear skies and calming winds will set the stage for another frigid one across southern Kentucky as lows drop into the lower 20’s. Some sheltered/valley areas could dip into the upper teens. Regardless, if you’re out and about celebrating the New Year, dress accordingly because it will be cold!

This is cool….minus the gloves.

Thu – Mostly Sunny; Chilly – High 40º / Thu Night – Increasing Clouds; Cold – Low 32º

The first day of 2015 will be a nice but chilly one for the area. Plenty of sunshine hangs around early on before clouds increase by the afternoon period. This will be ahead of our next system slated to arrive Friday/Friday night.

The good news is we’ll stay mainly dry for our Thursday thanks to the strong surface high pressure over the region. The latest model guidance hinted towards a light wintry mix across southern Kentucky late Thursday night and into early Friday morning.

However, with such dry air in place, it looks that our best shot at some of the wintry stuff will hold off until Friday morning. Otherwise, look for mostly cloudy skies Thursday night as temperatures bottom out right around the freezing mark.

Fri – Mostly Cloudy, Light Wintry Mix – High 41º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy; Rain Likely – Low 36º

The light wintry mix will remain possible early on but I’m not overly impressed with the chances. I still believe the drier air will prevent a lot of precipitation from falling and if this does occur, look for only minor impacts and a few slick spots. Precipitation amounts will be very light for this period before temperatures rise well above freezing Friday afternoon.

A stronger wave of precipitation will move northeastward from the mid Mississippi Valley by Friday night as rain chances increase for Bowling Green. In fact, precipitation water values will range from 1.2 – 1.4” range showing sufficient moisture edging northward by Saturday. Overall, Friday night will end up as a wet, cold rain as temperatures drop into the upper 30’s.
