Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Sct’d Showers – High 57º / Tonight – Rain Likely — Low 51º

3pm 57º – 6pm 54º – 9pm 53º – 12am 52º – 3am 52º – 6am 51º

Good afternoon, southern Kentucky is remaining relatively dry for now, but our rain chances look to increase later today and into tomorrow. All eyes are currently on an area of low pressure currently situated along the Gulf Coast.

This area of low pressure will move northeast tonight into Kentucky and we will see an increase in precipitation as a result. Warm air advection will continue across southern Kentucky ahead of this low which will keep our temperatures in the 50s today and tonight.

Scattered showers will continue for the remainder of the afternoon. Precipitation coverage will increase overnight as the low moves closer to our area. We could even expect to hear a few rumbles of thunder overnight. Overall, expect an additional 0.25-0.5″ of rainfall tonight.

Christmas Eve – Showers Likely – High 53º / Wed Night – Sct’d Rain & Snow Showers — Low 35º

By daybreak tomorrow, low pressure will be situated directly over Kentucky. Ongoing warm air advection will come to an end as a surface cold front plows east across southern Kentucky. Scattered showers will continue across the area tomorrow with westerly surface winds ramping up behind the cold front. Sustained winds of 10-20mph with gusts up to 30mph are expected tomorrow afternoon.

We will see high temperatures in the lower 50s occur early in the morning. As the day progresses, expect temperatures to slowly fall into the upper 30s by tomorrow evening. Temperatures will be cold enough for precipitation to switch to a mix of rain and snow showers after sunset tomorrow.

A mix of rain and snow showers will continue overnight. Precipitation will be very light as moisture will be limited, but there will be just enough moisture for us to see some flakes. As far as any accumulation goes, snowfall amounts will reach a dusting at best. Even if we see some heavier snow showers, surface temperatures will be too warm for any accumulation as low temperatures will hang in the middle 30s.

Christmas Day – Partly Cloudy – High 47º / Thur Night – Mostly Clear — Low 32°

After an active pattern this week, our weather will finally quiet down by Christmas morning as upper-level ridging and surface high pressure will move in behind this week’s system. What a relief..

Expect morning cloud cover to break up by tomorrow afternoon. High temperatures will reach the upper 40s tomorrow afternoon, so even if some locations have a dusting of snow on the ground, it will quickly melt by mid-morning. Expect mostly clear skies with lows around freezing tomorrow night.

That’s all I’ve got for this afternoon. Enjoy your Christmas and be sure to check out @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX on Twitter for real-time weather updates.
