Well the good news is, it’s Friday. The bad news? Just take a look outside. We end the work week on a soggy note as plenty of rainfall will work across southern Kentucky this afternoon and evening. After some morning rain and a few hit and miss showers along the way, the bulk of the activity will arrive into the early evening hours.

Winds will pick up from our south around 10-15 mph while ushering in warm, moist air into the area. Because of this, temperatures this afternoon have warmed into the lower 60’s and will likely climb a few more degrees in the next couple hours.

Models show good agreement with this system as the low pressure work eastwards across the Ozarks and eventually into the state tonight. In doing so, a swath of rain with embedded thunderstorms will engulf southern Kentucky for this period. A bulk of the heavy rain looks to impact Bowling Green’s weather near commute time  through 9pm. Here’s a look at the WPC forecast surface map and what the HRRR model is showing.

This will be a nice soaking rain event. The WPC forecast precipitation map indicates this very well. Rainfall totals will range from 1-2 through Sunday morning for Bowling Green weather. Otherwise, look for mild overnight temperatures in the upper 50’s, lower 60’s with periods of heavy rain and a rumble of thunder or two.

Sat – Mostly Cloudy; Lingering AM Showers – High 63º↓ / Sat Night – Mostly Cloudy; Cold – Low 35º

By Saturday morning, we’ll watch the aforementioned system track eastward as rain tapers off from west to east. Activity will clear southern Kentucky by late morning as cooler air filters in from the NW. High pressure will slide across the Great Lakes Region to help dry things out across the Ohio Valley.

Otherwise, look for cloudy skies to linger through the day while temperatures drop steadily into the 40’s Saturday afternoon. Cloud cover will finally begin to break up Saturday night/early Sunday morning as overnight lows fall into the mid 30’s.
