Brazil is currently facing the worst drought it has seen in over 80 years as the Cantareira watershed, a major source of water for the city of Sao Paulo, runs dry.
The reservoirs that supply water for 8 million people in the metropolitan area are the lowest they have ever been, and could run out by February if the rainy season doesn’t bring enough relief. Water pumps and daily water rationing in the smaller cities have been temporary solutions to this drought, as authorities turn to desperate measures to supply water until the wet season.
