Wednesday’s Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Decreasing Clouds; Chilly – High 41º / Tonight – Partly Cloudy; Cold — Low 28º

3pm 41º – 6pm 38º – 9pm 34º – 12am 33º – 3am 30º – 6am 28º

Well, this is no fun. After starting the week out in the mid-upper 60’s, our Wednesday comes with a big wake up call. Mother Nature has made the call and unfortunately, we had to answer. Nonetheless, it’s been a cold day for Bowling Green weather as lingering cloud cover has put a halt on rising temperatures. Stack this with a northwesterly wind around 5-10 mph, little warmth will occur today as highs struggle to reach the lower 40’s.

The good news, if any will be the decreasing cloud cover through this evening. Now, we’re not expected to completely clear out tonight as partly cloudy skies will hang tough. However, look for those cold conditions to persist as lows dip into the upper 20’s. Light NW winds will continue as wind chill values will make things feel like the mid 20’s by early morning. Regardless, if you’re out late tonight/early tomorrow morning, the winter necessities will definitely be needed.

Thu – Partly Sunny; Cold – High 38º / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy; Cold – Low 21º

Strong surface high pressure will continue its descent from the Great Plains and eventually make its way towards the Ohio Valley. In return, our Thursday shapes up to be a relatively calm and cold one for southern Kentucky. Afternoon temperatures will be even colder from Wednesday as highs only reach the upper 30’s.

Not a whole lot changes forecast wise by Thursday night. We’ll see a few clouds pass over the area as partly cloudy skies win out. Otherwise, look for unseasonably cold conditions as lows bottom out in the lower 20’s. A few sheltered and valley areas could reach the upper teens by early Friday morning.

Fri – Mostly Sunny; Unseasonably Cold – High 35º / Fri Night – Mostly Clear; Cold – Low 20º

The aforementioned surface high pressure will slowly work across the region bringing the coldest temperatures along with it. Mostly sunny skies will prevail as we look to wrap up the work week but afternoon highs will be 20-25º below normal. Yes, we’re talking winter-like conditions. Temperatures will barely rise above the freezing mark Friday afternoon.

The dome of high pressure will reside right over the Commonwealth by early Saturday morning. Clear skies and calm winds will allow for good radiational cooling (i.e., cooling of the earth’s surface due to clear skies). In return, expect overnight lows to drop into the lower 20’s, with a few readings in the upper teens certainly possible. Brrrr!
