We’ve kicked off the work week on a fantastic note. Upper-level ridging and surface high pressure has gripped our region and will do so for the next 24 hours. In return, we’re seeing plenty of blue skies and sunshine as highs have soared into the mid-upper 60’s.

Tue – Partly Cloudy; Comfortable – High 66º / Tue Night – Mostly Cloudy; Showers Likely (Late) – Low 53º

Tuesday starts out much like our Monday as temperatures reach the mid 60’s once again. However, cloud cover will begin increasing from our west ahead of the next disturbance set to impact the Ohio Valley. Surface high pressure will weaken and work eastward towards the Mid-Atlantic as return flow increases our southwesterly winds.

Moisture will increase across southern Kentucky as a distinct surface boundary works eastward into the Commonwealth. In return, rain showers will begin to ramp up along and ahead of this boundary Tuesday night and Wednesday. Model guidance continues to hint towards a slower progression with this system while increasing our rainfall totals through early Thursday morning. The latest precipitation forecast shows a moderate rainfall event for the region with totals ranging from a 1.00” – 1.25”.

Nonetheless, our mid-late week looks a bit on the dreary side. Outside of increasing rain chances Tuesday night, overnight lows will be mild as temperatures drop into the lower 50’s.

Wed– Cloudy; Cooler, Showers Likely – High 56º / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d Showers – Low 45º

The aforementioned surface boundary will pump the brakes after arriving across the state Wednesday morning. Showers will be likely early on and throughout the afternoon hours before finally winding down by Wednesday night. Much cooler air will filter in for southern Kentucky as thermometer readings struggle to reach the mid-upper 50’s.

Overnight lows will drop back into the middle 40’s as activity begins to wane. We’ll watch another shortwave dig across the region Thursday bringing more cloud cover and some rain chances. Long range model guidance hints towards some clearing by late week as sunshine makes a return with cold temperatures in the upper 40’s and lower 50’s for highs.
