Storms Pound the Pacific Northwest

While most of the country is experiencing calmer weather this weekend, the Pacific Northwest has been receiving heavy rain and strong winds that will continue for the next few days. With a dip in the jet stream bringing in moisture off the West Coast, the area has seen some much-needed rain and mountain snow, but also strong winds that have knocked down numerous trees and powerlines. According to The Weather Channel, wind gusts of 91 mph affected the state of Oregon yesterday, and over 68,200 customers were without power in Oregon and Washington as of Saturday night.

Post-tropical Storm Ana could be making another appearance early this week with landfall over the Pacific Northwest or British Columbia come Tuesday. According to Capital Weather Gang, it is not uncommon for post-tropical weather systems to affect the Pacific Northwest; the jet stream often sweeps them in and leads them in that direction. The continuing heavy rain and strong winds could greatly affect this part of the country over the next few days, with flash floods possible.
