Severe Threat For Southern Kentucky

The severe weather threat for southern Kentucky will continue overnight. The Storm Prediction Center recently updated their outlook. They have kept all of south central Kentucky in a ‘Slight (think enhanced) Risk’ of severe weather through early tomorrow morning:

Our atmosphere remains juiced with ingredients that support strong convection. A boundary is currently sweeping east across western Kentucky, and could serve as a focus for storm development over the upcoming hours…

The latest HRRR model trends have suggested a strong cluster of storms will fire to our northwest, and slide east/southeast over the upcoming hours.

The following HRRR model loops every hour from 9pm – 1am. As you can see, this run suggest we’re in for a busy night.

This is not a guarantee, however, the current setup does suggest the possibility of it coming to fruition. Main threats, should we see these storms fire, will be strong winds, frequent lightning, and hail. Although very marginal, an isolated tornado threat cannot be ruled out.
