Tuesday Afternoon Weather Update

Another beautiful day is underway in southern Kentucky thanks to some slight upper-level ridging. Calm winds and mostly clear skies have accompanied temperatures in the lower to middle 80s this afternoon.

Skies will remain mostly clear overnight and we will see our low temperatures drop into the lower to middle 50s. With calm winds expected, a few spots could see some patchy fog develop by tomorrow afternoon.

Wednesday 10/1 – Mostly Clear – High 86° / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 58°

A deep upper-level trough will be overtaking the eastern U.S. during the second half of the week. Associated surface low pressure will deepen over the Great Lakes region and help to push a strong cold front east over our area by Friday. This cold front will bring us a shot of colder air and a taste of fall.

Ahead of this cold front, wind will turn to the south by tomorrow afternoon and make temperatures a few degrees warmer. Expect highs in the middle 80s under partly cloudy skies during the day with lows falling into the upper 50s overnight.

Thursday 10/2 – Increasing Clouds – High 87° / Thur Night – Scattered Thunderstorms – Low 65°

Things will really start to get interesting by Thursday as the cold front moves closer from the west. We will start out the day  under partly cloudy skies and southerly winds will continue pumping warmer air into our area. Temperatures could make a run at the upper 80s by Thursday afternoon and we will see a slight increase in cloud cover during the evening.

Showers and thunderstorms will begin to impact the area Thursday night with the heaviest of the precipitation holding off until after midnight. The main threats with any storms will be heavy rainfall and frequent lightning as the best severe weather parameters will be to our west. Check out this map from the WPC  showing predicted rainfall totals by Friday at 7AM.

Expect up to a half inch of rainfall by Friday morning. Showers and storms look to continue on Friday with cooler air moving in over the weekend.
