I had the privilege of participating in Potter Gray Elementary’s ‘Science Day’ today. Several volunteers from a wide variety of occupations in the science field attended this event, showcasing their skills and discussing their roles with students and faculty alike.

For my presentation, we covered a wide variety of weather topics, focusing in on nowcasting and storm chasing. The students analyzed several photographs to become educated on the different components that create a thunderstorm.

Some of the things we discussed included the refraction and reflection of light, how to correctly identify a wide variety of weather lingo (shelf clouds, hail shafts, downdrafts, funnel clouds, tornadoes, etc.) in the field, and last but certainly not least, weather safety.
I would like to take the time to thank the wonderful students and faculty at Potter Gray Elementary for a fantastic day of living science!
