Hot and Stormy Pattern Continues for Bowling Green

Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Scattered Thunderstorms – High 88° / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy, Isolated Thunderstorms Ending Early – Low 68°

3pm 88º – 6pm 80º – 9pm 76º – 12am 74º – 3am 71º – 6am 68º

Good afternoon, a weak cold front currently positioned over the Ohio River will push south this afternoon leading to another round of storm chances. Ahead of this front, temperatures will rise into the upper 80s with dew points in the lower 70s. A boundary leftover from storms in Missouri and Arkansas this morning has interacted with the cold front and provided the lift for storms to fire across the state this afternoon.

These storms will have a decent amount of instability to work with this afternoon. Additionally, marginal wind shear could help to organize these storms. This should allow some of the initial pop-up thunderstorms this afternoon to congeal into clusters of storms. While widespread severe weather is not expected at this time, a few of these storms could produce locally damaging winds and small hail. The best severe weather parameters looks to be in place east of I-65.

Most of us will see frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall as storms push through this afternoon. Southerly winds have helped push precipitable water values near 2″ this afternoon, and we could see a few spots having some flooding issues by this evening. Overall, around a half inch of rainfall is expected with the storms this afternoon and evening.

As the front pushes south this evening, any thunderstorm activity should dissipate by midnight. Skies will become partly cloudy overnight and we will see our low temperatures drop into the upper 60s.

Wednesday 9/3 – Parlty Cloudy, Stray Thunderstorm Possible Thunderstorms – High 89° / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 67°

By tomorrow, the cold front will be south of here but we will not see much of the way of cooler temperatures. What a let down..

Westerly winds will turn to the south by tomorrow afternoon, which will push high temperatures into the upper 80s once again. Skies will be partly cloudy, and we could see a pop-up thunderstorm during the afternoon as the cold front to our south may provide a boundary for some convection to fire along.

Most of us will not see any rain tomorrow, but if you get caught under one of these storms watch out for brief downpours and lightning. Any storms around the area will die off by tomorrow evening with low temperatures falling into the upper 60s overnight.

Thursday 9/4 – Isolated Thunderstorms – High 92° / Thur Night- Partly Cloudy, Muggy – Low 70°

The upper level ridge keeping the southeast U.S. warm will nose back to the north on Thursday which will warm our temperatures back into the lower 90s. Combine these temperatures with dew points in the 70s and things will be very humid on Thursday.

Outside of temperatures being a few degrees warmer on Thursday, our weather will be very similar to the day before. Expect partly cloudy skies with the chance of a few isolated storms during the afternoon. Expect a muggy night with our low temperature only dropping to around 70°.
