Good afternoon, folks. Hoping everyone is enjoying this wonderful Labor Day despite dodging a few scattered showers and storms. Afternoon conditions have been warm and muggy for Bowling Green weather as temperatures have jumped into the upper 80’s. Look for these uncomfortable and muggy conditions to stick around through the evening hours as we look to wrap up the holiday weekend.

A cold front will begin edging closer to the Commonwealth through the overnight period keeping the slight chance for a few scattered storms alive. Otherwise, look for partly cloudy skies over the region with mild temperatures in the lower 70’s.

As we tackle another work week, we’ll also be dealing with an increased chance for more storms by Tuesday. The latest NAM model guidance suggests a couple of rounds of the wet stuff. First round arrives by mid-late morning. This will be followed by a lull in activity. If the atmosphere can get back on its feet during this time, the afternoon storms could be on the stronger side.

One thing is for sure, the atmosphere will be juicy. Precipitable water values will rise near the 2” mark across southern Kentucky with decent instability nosing in. As the cold front tracks across the state, this boundary will interact with a very moist and unstable air mass. These ingredients will supply the spark needed for development across the southern Kentucky.

The latest SPC outlook outlines portions of south-central and eastern Kentucky under a slight (think enhanced risk) for strong-severe storms. This does not include Bowling Green.

The SPC does outline all of southern Kentucky (including Bowling Green) for having at least a 5% probability for strong, even severe storms within 25 miles of a given point.

Regardless, any development that does occur tomorrow will be capable of laying down torrential rainfall, producing gusty winds and dangerous lightning. The cold front will work through the state tomorrow night as a surface high pressure builds in. Activity will eventually clear the area as partly cloudy skies hang around with mild lows around 70º.

Wed – Partly Sunny; Iso’d Storms – High 88º / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy, Mild – Low 71º

The aforementioned front will continue its track across the region as a few lingering showers or storms hang around. All in all, look for slightly drier air to work in while temperatures remain on the warm side. Highs will reach the upper 80’s as surface high pressure builds into the Ohio Valley Region.

All rainfall should clear the area by the evening and overnight hours. Look for relatively calm conditions under partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will drop into the lower 70’s once again under partly cloudy skies.
