It’s been a gorgeous summer day across Bowling Green with ample amounts of sunshine and warm temperatures in the upper 80’s to right around 90 degrees. Despite the warmth, northeasterly upper level winds have managed to keep our dewpoints values in the lower 60’s for much of southern Kentucky. In return, a nice and warm day has prevailed.

That’s worth a high five…

Through the evening and overnight hours, pleasant conditions will persist with an increase in cloud cover by early tomorrow morning. Otherwise, look for calm conditions with cool lows in the lower 60’s.

Tue – Mostly Sunny; Hot – High 92º / Tue Night – Partly Cloudy; Mild – Low 68º

Tuesday will mimic Monday in many ways. Afternoon highs will soar into the lower 90’s despite the cool start to the day. The only difference we’ll see will be a slight increase in cloud cover from our west.

The latest model guidance suggest dewpoint values to remain in the lower 60’s throughout the day as muggy conditions manage to stay away.  Increasing cloud cover will continue Tuesday evening and overnight as partly cloudy skies take over. Lows will be a tad warmer with temperatures in the upper 60’s.

Wed – Partly Sunny; Sct’d Storms – High 90º / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy, Sct’d Storms – Low 69º

A rather active weather period takes over by mid-week. There’s no moaning or groaning about it this time. Up to date rainfall totals put Bowling Green nearly 6.00” under for the year as we now stand under moderate drought conditions.

The stagnant upper level trough will finally begin to nudge northeastward as a surface low and its associated cold front dives southward from the northwest. This forcing mechanism coupled with a moist atmosphere and daytime heating will provide the trigger for scattered storm development.

Precipitable water values will rise near 1.9” through Wednesday afternoon and evening indicating plenty of moisture across south-central Kentucky. While no storms are expected to reach severe limits, some could be on the stronger side with heavy rainfall, gusty winds and lightning.

The latest precipitation forecast from the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) indicates some light rainfall totals for the area. While these are no drought busters, anything at this point would be beneficial for southern Kentucky.  Keep in mind, locally heavier amounts will certainly be possible with any thunderstorm activity.

The aforementioned boundary will slowly work through the region Wednesday night as the chance for scattered showers and storms continue. Otherwise, expect mostly cloudy skies with mild lows in the upper 60’s.
