The first day of August kicked off on a warm note as temperatures soared into the upper 80’s this afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Surface high pressure takes on full responsibility for this wonderful weather but continues to weaken and work eastward across the Mid Atlantic coast. Go ahead, celebrate.

Nice footwork….

However, we will keep a slight chance for a stray shower or storm in the forecast for the remainder of this afternoon and evening. The good news is that any activity that does develop will be widely scattered in nature with nothing severe to worry about. However, for any cells that do fire, most will lose their juice by tonight as activity will wane with the loss of daytime heating and limited moisture. Otherwise, look for partly cloudy skies with lows in the low-mid 60’s.

Sat – Mostly Sunny; Iso’d Storms – High 88º / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy; Iso’d Storms – Low 63º

The first part of the weekend will be nearly identical to our Friday. Highs will top out in the upper 80’s for Bowling Green under mostly sunny skies. Once again, through the peak heating hours of the day, slight chances for a pop-up shower or storm will remain in the forecast.

Personally, Saturday looks to be the best chance for southern Kentucky to see some activity as moisture increases just a tad through the afternoon hours. A weak lobe of  vorticity will slide through the Commonwealth during this time providing some additional lift for development. However, chances seem slight at best for storms with no severe weather expected with development. Conditions will calm into the evening and overnight hours as any precipitation should weaken and dissipate. Lows will drop into the lower 60’s.

Sun – Mostly Sunny; Nice – High 85º / Sun Night – Partly Cloudy, Pleasant – Low 64º

Overall, Sunday will shape up to be a great day and nice way to end the weekend. A weak surface high pressure will develop across the region as highs cool just a bit into the mid 80’s. Slightly drier and more comfortable air will spread across the Commonwealth Sunday under mostly sunny conditions.

A warming trend will begin starting next Monday as winds begin to shift from our south-southwest. Highs will reach the lower, even mid 90’s by mid-week as plenty of warmth and moisture spread northward across the area. In return, hot and humid conditions will make a strong return as plenty of sunshine sticks around.
