A secondary cold front will continue to work eastward from the Ozarks this afternoon and evening as cooler and drier air filters across the Commonwealth. Afternoon temperatures will remain warm as highs reach the upper 80’s once again under mostly sunny skies.

With the frontal passage expected to occur through the afternoon and evening hours, we’ll hold onto a slight chance for a stray pop-up shower or storm. Otherwise, look for any shower activity to finally come to an end as the aforementioned front departs the region. Overnight lows will be refreshingly cooler as temperatures drop into the lower 60’s.

Surface high pressure will dive across the Central Plains bringing much cooler and drier air along with it. This feature arrives just in time for the holiday as plenty of sunshine will be expected. Unseasonably cool temperatures will take over for the next few days as highs struggle to reach the 80 degree mark.

The cooler air mass will really become noticeable Thursday night. Overnight temperatures will dip into the upper 50’s under partly cloudy skies as the surface high pressure continues to usher in cooler air from the northwest. This nice change will sit perfect for many as folks head out to Thunderfest Thursday night. You normally don’t hear this for the first of July, but keep those light jackets handy.

Fri – Mostly Sunny; Gorgeous – High 81º / Fri Night – Mostly Clear; Chilly – Low 58º

The extended relief hangs around through our Independence day as afternoon temperatures stick in the lower 80’s. Plenty of sunshine hangs tough across the area as the high pressure treks over the Ohio Valley Region. Nonetheless, the 4th of July will be a great day to get out and enjoy and perfect for any outdoor festivities. Enjoy those fireworks and be safe out there!
