No Relief From The Heat

Real Time Regional Radar:

—————————————————————————————

This Afternoon – Partly Sunny; Hot – High 93º / Tonight – Mostly Clear; Mild – Low 69º

3pm 93º – 6pm 89º – 9pm 82º – 12am 76º – 3am 72º – 6am 69º

The last official week of spring is going out in full swing. Summer-like heat will continue all the way up to the first day of summer this Saturday as it looks like those 90 degree days will come in a hurry. For the remainder of this afternoon, hot and humid conditions will win out as ridging at the surface and aloft controls our weather. A stray shower will be possible later this afternoon due to daytime heating.

Afternoon highs will top out in the lower 90’s for Bowling Green with heat indices in the mid-upper 90’s. Regardless, if you’re battling the heat today, be sure to drink plenty of fluids even if you’re pool side. A nice southwesterly breeze around 5-10 mph will only provide a slight bit of relief as mother nature continues to turn up the heat dial. Tonight, look for clouds to mix out with mild lows in the upper 60’s.

Must. Cool. Down.

Wed – Partly Sunny; Hot – High 91º / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy; Warm – Low 71º

As mentioned previously, ridging at the surface and aloft will continue to dominate our short term weather as the oppressive heat stays put. Outside of the sweltering temperatures, the only difference will be the additional cloud cover by Wednesday afternoon. Conditions will remain mostly sunny early on before scattered cumulus clouds filter across southern Kentucky.

This cloud deck will linger into our evening and overnight hours as partly cloudy skies win out. The cloud cover will help keep those overnight temperatures a tad warmer with expected thermometer readings in the lower 70’s.

Thu – Mostly Sunny; Iso’d Storms – High 92º / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy; Sct’d Storms – Low 70º

The Tennessee Valley Region and parts of the Deep South will be largely controlled by surface high pressure. Nothing changes temperature-wise as the heat and humidity stick around. Afternoon highs will be hot with heat indices in the mid-upper 90’s. However, the southwesterly wind component will continue to stream in warmer and moist air across the area.

With that said, I think we’ll see slightly better chances for a few isolated showers and storms across southern Kentucky as any activity will be mainly diurnally driven. Any development Thursday afternoon will be scattered in nature and will diminish by the evening hours with the loss of daytime heating. Otherwise, look for partly cloudy skies stick around with warm lows around 70º.

I know…it makes me cringe too.

The rain and storm chances will increase towards late week and into our weekend as multiple disturbances move through the region. While chances look better for Bowling Green, I do not expect this event to be a wash out by any means as activity will remain hit and miss for the area. The hot temperatures stick around as we welcome in the first official day of summer on Saturday.

That does it for now, folks. Be sure to stay up to date with all your real time weather info @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX on twitter. Wishing everyone a great evening! Stay cool out there!
