Weekend Rain Chances

Real Time Regional Radar:

Today 6/6 –  Partly Cloudy, Isolated Thunderstorms – High 82° / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 63°

Good morning, it’s the end of the work week which means it is time to gear up for the weekend. Unfortunately, the weather has been gearing up for the weekend as well and is bringing us more rain chances.

This weekend won’t be a total washout but we will see multiple chances of showers and storms. Today, a stationary front is sitting just south of us and this will be the main focus for our weather. We will have to watch this stationary front closely, since it will be the main focal point for any showers and storms to fire along.

We should see partly cloudy skies today, but overcast skies will be just south of the KY/TN state line and we will have to watch closely to see if more clouds inch north.  Showers and storms should also stay south of here but a stray storm this afternoon can’t be ruled out.

Any threat for showers and storms will diminish overnight and we will see lows dip into the lower 60s tonight.

Saturday 6/7 – Partly Cloudy, Isolated  PM Thunderstorms – High 85° / Sat Night – Scattered Thunderstorms – Low 69°

A surface low pressure system will get its act together to our west on Saturday and send a warm front moving northeast across the state. By Saturday afternoon, expect the warm front to trigger some isolated showers and storms across our area. Here is what the WPC thinks the surface map will look like by Saturday evening, and you can see the warm front draped right across Kentucky.

Storms will have a good amount of moisture and instability to work with, but at this time it does not look like we will be dealing with any severe weather due to a lack of wind shear to support stronger storms. By Saturday night, we will be in the warm sector of this surface low and we will see an increase in precipitation coverage with temperatures only dipping down to around 70 degrees.

Sunday 6/8 – Scattered  PM  – High 85° / Sat Night – Scattered Thunderstorms – Low 67°

Our best rain chances look to be on Sunday as the low passes just north of us. A weak cold front will move over the area sometime during the afternoon bringing more storms with it. Storms looks be a bit more organized than on Saturday, and there could be a few strong storms on Sunday, though it is a little too early to get into any details.

Scattered thunderstorms look likely on Sunday night as well and as we look ahead into early next week it looks like we will be dealing with a few more rounds of precipitation….shocker. Biggest advice for the weekend? Pack an umbrella if you plan to be outside, maybe we should invest in one of these…
