Real-Time Regional Radars:

 ——————————————-

Today 5/14 – Showers and Thunderstorms Likely, some severe possible – High 73° / Tonight – Scattered Storms – Low 51°

6am 65˚ – 9am 69˚ – 12pm 72˚ – 3pm 73˚ – 6pm 71˚ – 9pm 62˚

Today’s weather will be somewhat cooler compared to yesterday’s weather. There will also be an increased chance of some thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to severe, but we’ll get to that later.

The increase in thunderstorm coverage is due, in part, to a cold front that is located just to our west. Throughout the day, this cold front will slide east, providing us with a bit more lift to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms. Be sure to track any storms using the radars provided above.

There is just enough instability and shear in the atmosphere to support some severe weather. While this is not expected to be a widespread severe weather outbreak, you should know that a couple of the storms may pulse to severe limits.

The main hazards will be strong winds, hail, frequent lightning and minor flooding.  An isolated tornado or two can’t be ruled out. The Storm Prediction Center has included our area in an enhanced risk for severe weather today.  Time frame for heightened concern will be through the afternoon & evening (yellow shaded area):

Apart from the thunderstorms in the forecast, winds will likely be out of the south around 5 to 10 mph. This will help warm our temperatures a bit, despite cloudy skies.

Unfortunately, it looks like heavy rain will be possible over the course of today, tonight, and into Thursday morning. Rainfall amounts will likely end up in the 1.25″ to 1.75″ range. However, some places may pick up more and some places may pick up less depending on the intensity of the storms in your area. Below is projected area rainfall amounts:

Thur – Mostly Cloudy; Chance of Showers – High 62° / Thur Night – Slight Chance of Showers/Storms – Low 43°

The cold front will move through the region on Wednesday night which will knock back temperatures quite a bit on Thursday. You can kiss the 80’s we’ve been seeing bye, bye, bye…

There is some good news though, some sunshine will be possible in the afternoon hours on Thursday as the morning rain showers move out of the region. There is still an off chance of a stray thunderstorm or two in the afternoon hours. However, current thinking is that this shouldn’t be too widespread.

We will continue to see the temperatures decrease through the overnight hours on Thursday night. Temperatures as low as the mid 40s will be possible aided by some clearing skies and winds from the west around 5 mph.

Fri – Chance of Thunderstorms; Partly Sunny – High 65° / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 44°

High pressure will build into the region on Friday, allowing us a chance to clear out a bit. However, we’ll keep the slight chance of thunderstorms in the forecast due to some wrap-around moisture on the backside of the exiting low pressure system; widespread thunderstorms are unlikely, and most will stay dry.

High pressure won’t help temperatures warm much though. Temperatures will remain in the mid 60s, with rather calm wind. Be sure to get out and enjoy the Friday afternoon, because all in all, it looks like a pretty nice day.
