Say goodbye to the summer-like weather that we have been experiencing lately because major changes are on the way. It’s a good afternoon to keep an eye on the latest real-time radars as pop-up thunderstorms will be possible throughout the rest of the day.

The cold front to our west is making slow eastward progress and will send cloudy skies our way overnight. The front will also help to increase thunderstorm coverage and we will see scattered thunderstorms across the area. While these storms are not expected to produce any severe weather, some of the stronger storms could produce brief heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds.

The cold front will slowly pass over our area tomorrow which will bring a threat for some storms. Multiple rounds of precipitation will impact us throughout the entire day, as clusters of thunderstorms will be thriving in the juicy air mass ahead of the front. A few of these storms could be severe and the SPC continues to place our area in a slight risk for severe storms:

Severe weather will not be widespread but any storms that do manage to become strong to severe will be capable of producing damaging winds, heavy rainfall, lightning, and small hail.  Although unlikely, an isolated tornado or two can’t be ruled out. It is looking increasingly likely that a few spots could end up with more than an inch of rain tomorrow as storms will have plenty of moisture to work with.

Here is the latest precipitation forecast from the WPC valid from now until 7 PM Thursday which predicts over an inch of rain for all of southern Kentucky. Most of this rain will fall tomorrow.

As the cold front finally pushes by us on Thursday morning, colder air will push into the region. We will see some leftover showers during the morning and these should come to an end by midday. Otherwise, we will see mostly cloudy skies and highs in the lower 60s…

That will be about 20-25 degrees cooler than we have seen the past few days. On Thursday night, lows will dip well into the 40s with a chance for a few isolated showers overnight.

This cold air will actually stick around until Sunday as we will sit right under a large upper level trough. It looks like we will see a few chances for some isolated showers this weekend, but no big rain makers.
